Malaysia is set to solidify its position as a digital gaming powerhouse in Southeast Asia, following a landmark strategic partnership between the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and EMERGE Group, a Martech Web3 firm and commercialization partner. The partnership, which was formalised during the IOV2055 Symposium – Malaysian Chapter, aims to accelerate the growth and development of Web3 games in Malaysia, positioning the country at the forefront of Web3 gaming within the ASEAN region.
EMERGE Group will leverage its extensive network of Web3 gaming partnerships, including collaborations with Gala Games, Immutable X, TZ APAC, Sei and other leading Web3 gaming projects, to identify synergies and advance Web3 game publishing. This strategic effort aims to position Malaysia as a key player in the region’s digital gaming transformation. This coincides with EMERGE Group’s initiative to support neighbouring Web3 communities in changing the greater community’s perspective of Web3 projects within the SEA region.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) exchange took place at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur on October 3, 2024, as part of the IOV2055 Symposium, a premier tech conference focused on bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3 ecosystems. This collaboration marks a pivotal milestone in Malaysia’s journey towards becoming a global hub for immersive Web3 gaming and digital creativity.
The event attracted industry leaders, innovators, and investors from across the region, with a focus on fostering cross-industry collaboration. The MOU underscores a shared commitment between MDEC and EMERGE Group to drive forward Malaysia’s digital transformation strategy and reinforce its leadership in blockchain gaming.
“Our partnership with MDEC is a pivotal step in establishing Malaysia as a leader in Web3 game publishing within Southeast Asia. By tapping into our extensive network and deep expertise, we’re confident that we can accelerate the adoption of blockchain technologies and fuel the growth of a dynamic digital gaming ecosystem. This collaboration not only reinforces Malaysia’s position as a regional powerhouse in Web3 gaming, but also opens the door to unparalleled opportunities for digital creativity and economic expansion across ASEAN.” – Roy Kek, CEO and Co-founder of EMERGE Group.
As part of the strategic partnership announcement, the first batch of key market players joining the Malaysia Web3 Gaming Council will be recognized with a special plaque presentation. This inaugural group includes prominent names such as Sei, Virtuals GG, Xprotocol, TZ APAC, Carv, Avocado DAO, Breeder DAO, GAM3S, Pomerium, KAIA, Aethir, EVG, and Mirai Labs. These organisations represent the forefront of Web3 innovation, and the council aims to expand further in the future, bringing together more leaders to propel Malaysia’s Web3 gaming ecosystem.
